The extreme high gas velocity at the Venturi throat atomizes the liquid to very fine droplets that collide with and entrap the dust particles. Following the Venturi, gases and dust laden liquid droplets enter tangentially into a cyclonic separator in which the dust laden droplets are separated from the gases by centrifugal force. The wetted-wall liquid distributor provides a complete liquid coverage at the throat that is essential for achieving the optimum scrubbing efficiency at a given operating pressure drop. This design also permits the use of slurries as scrubbing mediums and handling of high temperature flue gases.

Horizontal Spraturi Scrubbers

This model has essentially the same scrubbing efficiency and performance characteristics as the vertical down flow Venturi scrubber except with horizontal Venturi and spray water distribution. It offers lower capital cost and good reliability but is limited to inlet gas temperature not exceeding 1000 deg. F and scrubbing water with low solids content. It is best suited for dryer exhaust gases, blast furnace, metallurgical fumes, and smoke and oil fumes from food processing plants.
